Jovanovich and Kates Named in 2007 Junior Pan Pacific Championships Team

Bobby Jovanovich and Garth Kates after Squad Selection

The future of Australian Swimming is in safe hands if the strength of the Telstra Dolphins teamnamed for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Maui next January is any indication.

The 30-member team was announced at the conclusion of the Telstra Australian Short Course Championships in Hobart and is chock full of rising young stars.

The second ever Junior Pan Pacs will feature the best swimmers under 18 from Australia, the USA, Canada, Japan and other selected countries.

Australia's Head Youth Coach Leigh Nugent, the man who guided Australia to their most successful offshore Olympic campaign, is in charge of this young brigade and expects some success stories to come from the meet.

"The Junior Pan Pacs is an important pathway to the senior team and success at international level," Nugent said.

"We will come up against strong competition from Japan, Canada and the Americans and the experience these young athletes gain will be invaluable later in their careers.
